As a child digging around in my grandparents' garage, I found a number of old books which my father had as a child. Among the Edgar Rice Burroughs, Zane Grey, & others there was James Oliver Curwood's KAZAN & BAREE, SON OF KAZAN. Old, tattered treasures which I still own. Both books had a great influence on my love of the outdoors. I recommend them not only for young readers, but for anyone who has not had the pleasure of reading them. Curwood, like Jack London, wrote accurately of the Great North, nature, dogs and people.Product details

Baree Son of Kazan Annotated Edition edition by James Curwood Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
Good intermingling of human and animal plotlines, well-written. Heartwarming. A fun, easy read that despite being slightly more "Hollywood" than "Kazan" had some real substance.

Purchased as a gift! My sister loved it!
childhood favorite
This book was first read to me by my Grandfather in about 1943 and it was the first book of its type that I read in about 1946 or 1947. When I read it again it brought back so many memories with the greatest of clarity and yet with new insights as well. I will get to relive the life, loves, highs and lows of Baree's life all over again for another 75 years -- or so I should hope. I bought several copies to give to my Grandchildren.

I read this as a child and loved it. Now many years later, I reread it again. It well written and still a joy to read. The hardships of the Canadian winters, struggles and great plot. A great read for anyone at any age. Tells it like it was and not sugar coated.
If you want a book with action, adventure, tears, and continued movement, this is the book for you. I recommend that you read Kazan first however as it starts with him. I find that older books, written before we became too risque, are more fun to read and have lots of knowledge tucked inside that help explain our lives...a little. Friendship is always worthwhile.
