So I was going to give this book a 4 1/2 star rating only because one of the main characters within the book seemed to be holding some things back and I didn't know if there would be a book two in the works. So glad that I read the sample of the next book because now I do know there is a book two.I loved the romance, along with the mystery surrounding what was going on. You have Kit who is now getting her life back together not only from her horrible childhood but more from the man who broke her heart. When Jake comes back into the picture well it seems that is when everything goes to hell in a hand basket. Kit's mother is murdered, Kit is the prime suspect her friend Bailey seemed to be harboring a secret that she doesn't want anyone to know about.
But Jake is not the cause of the mystery surrounding Kit's mother.
He just came back at the wrong time to be with Kit, but can he protect her from the lawyer Boyd brothers. Kit has a past with one of them a semi-dark past and it seems he will stop at nothing to be with Kit.
With a bunch of bodies piling up because of Alana's dark and dirty past Kit and Jack uncover secrets, while trying to stay alive. But who exactly is doing all the killing? What is up with Kit's dreams.
I felt so bad for Kit's childhood but yet she grew up to become a strong person who doesn't like trouble, but can handle her own. She become a strong person and what she had to deal with, wow she had more strength than I ever would.
There are revelations that will come into Kit's life and lets just say it was an oh wow moment on that one.
There is a perfect dark and rainy day read that you can and will want to devour. There is mystery, romance, moments that will leave you holding your breath and wondering what is going to happen next.

Just Evil The Evil Secrets Trilogy Book 1 edition by Vickie McKeehan Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks Reviews
This was actually a really good story-line, and I enjoyed this one so much I immediately ordered the next 2 and read them all back to back.
For a first-time author, this was excellent. A few typos, a few grammatical errors and a few spelling errors, but they didn't really detract from the story too much.
There were some aspects to the story that were totally unbelievable (it's really, really, REALLY rare for three female best friends to all fall in love with three male best friends ... just a little TOO unreal).
I'm not a romance reader and I normally stick with mysteries, thrillers, crime dramas and non-fiction. This was definitely a mystery/thriller, but it had WAY too much romance and way too much detail to the sex scenes for my personal comfort. If I wanted to read pseudo-porn, I'd have gotten "50 Shades of Grey", but I have not and will not.
The book gets 4 stars from me based on editing problems and excessive romance/sex. Overall it's a great book series and a very creative story-line. I will definitely read this author again.
I hardly slept for a week while reading this book because I couldn't put it down! Just Evil held my attention from beginning to end and I fell in love with all the characters. There are so many twists and turns and just when I thought I figured out the mystery, another curve ball. I love reading a book that challenges my imagination and has the ability to draw me into the story. There is never a boring moment in this book and as you peel away the layers of the mystery, it only gets more intense. I laughed, cried and found myself rooting for Kit and Jake!! There's a perfect blend of mystery, suspense, romance and spine tingling excitement. I already purchased Deeper Evil which is the second in the trilogy and I can't wait to start reading it.
If you are looking for a story that can keep you on the edge of your seat, Just Evil is the book for you. I will definitely add Vickie McKeehan to my list of favorite authors and I plan to read all of her books!!!
This book was a huge waste of time! Misogynist story of troubled woman magically saved by a big strong man. Poorly written with no attention to grammatical rules or norms and clearly poorly edited, too. Predictable from the first page.
This is almost a book.
There are parts that I liked. Quite honestly, I thought the author did a pretty good job of writing a "50 Shades of Grey" wannabe, but as a sexy mystery novel it just missed the mark.
There are too many sub-plots and none are resolved.
Kit (the heroine) has a young friend who has a baby with no revealed father, she is scared, but we never know way or of whom or how the fear is resolved.
An elderly couple is killed decades ago, the murderer never found. Obviously connected to the present murders, but we never know just how or why or who. Kit's mother and her friend (both villains) are murdered, but never solved in this book.
And on and on more killings but no explanation of what the conspiracy is or how it plays out.
And then, the author is just not well informed of her material. For instance Kit has a police detective that is trying to pin her Mother's murder on her. So, even though she has denied guilt and admitted no alibi in her first interview; Kit's lawyer spends days preparing Kit for an interview with the police. Huh? No real lawyer would allow a second or third interview. Never. A pistol is found in Kit's Mother's house, it is probably the decades old murder weapon. Much is made of this discovery ( the villains are searching everywhere, apparently for the gun) but, why? The gun, if proven to be the murder weapon, proves what? Kit's mother is dead, she can't be held responsible and she can't talk, and the other implied murderer ( nasty female lawyer) is also dead, so why are the villains so desperate to get this gun? We never know.
I realize that this book is intended to be a hook to sell the other books in the trilogy, but damn, the reader deserves something from this book. After all, a novel is supposed to stand alone as a real book, this one doesn't, and I don't plan to read the others.
I like trilogies but not when it just quits with out a real ending. To me this was just unfinished and could have been handled better.
So I was going to give this book a 4 1/2 star rating only because one of the main characters within the book seemed to be holding some things back and I didn't know if there would be a book two in the works. So glad that I read the sample of the next book because now I do know there is a book two.
