The story line was predictable and a bit repetitive. Her clumsiness, his rescues since they were kids, and her resenting being his rescue mission. Also her very shallow desire to be a "Cade-ette".made her less likeable. Her need for acceptance, his guilt over the loss of team member and his bff. Yes, the characters dwell on these things but the readers got it the first couple of times. Also, there are editing issues. Whether it is a spelling problem or word substitutions, things like the following should have been caught by an editor, or a cold read by the author. "lightening" for lightning, "last" when least fit the statement.

Tawny Weber has done it again! She writes a wonderful love story with great dialogue and sex. I really got caught up in this wonderful story and highly recommend it.
Cade Sullivan and Eden Gillespie grew up next door to each other. He was 4-6 years older than she was, and he was always rescuing her. He joined the Navy Seals after a heated argument with his rich and strong willed father, who wanted him to stay home and work in the family business. His father has a heart attack and crashes into Eden's tree when he was coming to see her to collect on a debt that her mother had incurred on Eden's house. Eden is a Veterinarian and has just found out that the family home she bought from her mother has a $30,000 debt on it that her mother drew out and she must pay it back or lose her house and acreage that she has for her Vet practice and pets. What she doesn't know is that her mother also took out a loan against her house with Cade's father before getting a loan against it from the bank. Cade's grandmother calls him to come back home because of his father's heart attack. Cade finds Eden up in a tree where she has just rescued an expensive cat, and her shoe becomes stuck in a branch, and rescues her yet again. Eden is looked down upon by society because her father died, leaving her and her mother broke, but since she has the family name, she is expected to attend society meetings. Cade has always been her hero and friend, despite the differences in wealth and society connections. Cade sees Eden as the sweet girl and friend from next door and it is up to Eden to change his mind...
After reading the first book, A SEAL's Seduction, I was hoping for a stronger story and it did finally deliver. The drama was minimal, but the angst was definitely "Ramp'd up". There was a bit more character back story to connect with the hero and the heroine. It even offered something that the other book did not offer..... depth. Most likely because these characters had a history together, but it was an innocent one and that seemed to appeal a bit more to me as a reader.
Both characters had family issues, but nothing that would make them appear shallow. Just misunderstood. Heck the small town feel with the cliques as well as the gossip felt more... reasonably believable.
Our hero, Cade, portrayed what a hero really is and not because of his status of being a Navy SEAL, but because of who he was as a person beyond the title. Completely swoon-worthy to me ;) What put it over the top for me was the heroine, Eden, being a klutz with a big heart. Cade's kindness towards her made him even more appealing as a character.
There was not a lot of military mention of the life of being a SEAL, but I think that is a good thing. The focus was on the characters, the town, and family... where it should be. I enjoyed this book far more than the previous one and even the small mention of Blake and Alexis from the previous book managed to tie everything all together nicely. The ending was sweet and offered the HEA the previous book lacked.
While I mentioned that this is the second book of a series (I believe there are only 2 books in this "series"), each one is a stand alone book. Between the two of them.... I recommend this one over the other.
I will admit I ordered this book out of boredom/desperatation or both. First off I was forced to eat my words, Harlequin is capable of turning out a great novel that doesn't cause its readers sappy sweetness induced cavities. This was the first Blaze and the best Harlequin novel I have ever read. I give it a 3 1/2 stars which I rounded up to four because it made me laugh out loud. The heroine was funny and clumsy ,yet she was sexy. The hero was a Navy SEAL and come on, just describing his naval accomplishments turned me on.This book was refreshing because even though from the cover it looks like one of those books you know some overwrought themed gimmicky use of your $4 on it so wasn't. The author did a great job of making the characters real and somewhat original enough to work in this short read; which is hard to do especially in romantic fiction. I laughed a lot and smiled even more. So I guess it was worth the $1.99 for some genuine enjoyment. And for a change I actually liked the sex scenes they bordered on the tone of a light Brazen book ( search Wrong Bed Right Guy by Katee Robert) but didn't quite reach a level of overtly and overdone crudeness that is omnipresent in modern romance. Overall the author maintained a flirty, sexy and well paced set of romantic encounters. From their priceless first meeting involving a 20 pound cat, a tree and hot pink panties to the crazy hot scene over looking a cliff. The drawbacks, the story felt a little short but maybe I didn't want it to end. Yes the ending was sweet and tied up in a bow but then again it's Harlequin and I wouldn't expect anything less. Yes I would reccomend this book and I will definitely keep a look out for this author's future titles. If you like books with strong military type characters Ive included my personal list of favorite books.
Laura Kaye, One Night With a Hero
Marliss Melton, The Protector
Teresa Mummert, Suicide Note
Carla Neggers, Cold Pursuit, Cut and Run
Jayne Ann Krentz, All Night Long
Lisa Gardner ,The Perfect Husband
Tami Hoag, Lucky's Lady
