Where to start with this one. Hmm. Of Mind Or Matter is a, how to say it, a heavy book. It is a technically correct and sound character driven story. I found no typos or errors of any kind. Pacing was a little slow to begin with, once you get into the flow of the book it picks up and have a hard time putting it down. I finished it in two sittings, sleep forced me to stop.

Dialogue heavy with each conversation moving the story forward. I did not find any of it tedious or unnecessary. Highly developed characters with the right amount of background for you to learn and become invested with them. Poetically written, there is a definite rhythm to the story that will keep you involved and thinking.

I was able to put on several characters shoes and stroll along the countryside, feel the wind and smell the flowers. By the end of the story I felt like I had traveled the journey with the characters, not an easy feat to accomplish.

Of Mind or Matter is the kind of book that will grab you from the start. By the time Ballard gets to the outskirts of Bluebell you will be totally enmeshed in the characters that you will want to follow their life choices, spiritual truths and challenges that are superbly woven throughout the book. Enjoy!
I wanted so much to like this book but,unfortunately, just wasn't my cup of tea. Confusing, and for those of us who believe in a lifetime of lesson learning, the ending was a disappointment. There was way to much meandering through the chapters...not one character that was even likeable. Overall, a disappointment!
Sreejit is an incredibly gifted writer. I loved this book. Can't wait for more.
This is an excellent well written novel that emerges you in the author's world. I enjoyed the fast pace and originality of the novel as well as its gritty description of life. Of mind or matter is a tale of adventure that you wish never ends. On his search for meaning in his life, the author introduces you to an incredible rich mixture of characters that both enthralls and whole your interest throughout his journey. Along the way, he helps us understand how we can achieve purpose and a sense of spirituality without being perfect. At the end, one senses that the journey is far from over and that we still have much to learn from characters that populate the novel. I am eagerly looking forward to the sequel that must come.
This was the most unusual book I've read. Interesting in the beginning and following Ballard got my curiosity about where he ended up after leaving California. But the Grandma Daisy character just threw a monkey wrench in it for me. Then it becomes somewhat ridiculous of a story. It's like 'what??' And then the visit to Mother and staying out in the elements for 3 months? Seriously? Very odd story line in those chapters.
I have had this in my kindle for quite some time and I'd stop after a few pages, then start again then stop. Last night I decided to finish it. It held my interest. Really, if we just follow our gut we might be surprised at what we find. This man, obviously knew a little about the deaf, the rez and small town. I'm glad he decided to stick with it and things do have a way of working out in the end. I truly am looking forward to his next adventure.
Great job of illustrating how the mind yanks us around, distorting our view of ourselves and others, using up our precious time and taking us away from what we really want. The plight of us all. My favorite line "I just expected the universe to realize I was its center and eventually remember it needed to take care of me." Seems to me that weaving this story via dialogue alone was a skillful accomplishment. I was fully engrossed, hated to come to the end, but felt satisfied with the conclusion.
